Artists for Soup
Several years ago, when Artists for Soup Executive Director Judy Nichols was conducting academic research in Costa Rica, she heard a distressing but common refrain from Nicaraguan women who migrated there seasonally for work: “We have our houses in Nicaragua but nothing there to eat.”
Artists for Soup was founded in 2014 as a response to growing hunger and malnutrition in Nicaragua. Nicaragua is the poorest country in Central America and has one of the highest ratios of income inequality in the world.
Nicaragua has experienced severe cycles of drought and flooding that damage soil fertility, which in turn affects the local food supply. Artists for Soup Nicaraguan staff collaborate with community groups and individuals to address the environmental challenges of producing food in this region.
She’s The First
Our vision is a world where every girl chooses her own future.
All over the world, girls are treated as second to the boys. That’s why we put girls first.
Too often, girls are denied an education, told who and when to marry, and blocked from leadership. Educated and respected girls are the exception, not the norm.
Dhvani India Performing Arts Society of Central Ohio
There are more than 300 families in central Ohio with children who are learning Carnatic music or Bharatanatyam and/ or other traditional performing arts of India in our community and more than a dozen teachers. We are fortunate to also have a diverse group of musicians, music lovers and connoisseurs in our midst. Dhvani is also for all of these groups. . We reach out beyond the Indian community to local colleges, schools and universities and create educational and cultural experiences for the entire region.
One of the greatest gifts we have inherited is the intact culture of our ancestors, which has been given to us by our forefathers. We think it is an imperative that we sustain, cherish and nurture this culture – that which we think makes us ‘Indian” and pass it along to our children as so many who have come before us have done.
Dhvani intends to promote up-and-coming artists, artists who represent the best of our tradition as well as leading and popular exponents. We will be working with local teachers, leading exponents as well as schools and colleges. Our trustees all have deep roots in this community and we look to you all to participate and help this organization flourish.
Dhvani will also provide performance and workshop opportunities for the many North America based artists and teachers who excel in music and dance traditions of India.
Dhvani is AN ALL VOLUNTEER organization. None of our volunteers are paid for their services and many of them contribute both their time as well as their money to promote the activities of Dhvani.
