Many cities and municipalities have been passing ordinances to limit and/or restrict door-to-door solicitations. While the language and scope of these laws and vary from city to city, they all have very similar needs. These include:
A way for residents to securely add their addresses to option to a do not knock list.
A way for the city to ensure that these are bonafide owner requests.
A compliance mechanism for sales persons and companies to access a list of addresses that have opted in to the do not solicit list.
Address privacy concerns of property owners.
In collaboration with www.siteinsight.com, we undertook this project for the City of Hilliard. We worked closely with the legal and the admin departments. The result has been a robust web application that has served the city of Hilliard well and has become a model for other cities.
